Historic wraparound porch garden with Cor-Ten edging

October 6, 2024Shared by Corey

Corey installed roughly 270 feet of Edge Right 6 inch, 16 gauge Cor-Ten hammer-in edging, plus 45 degree corner connectors, to shape mulch beds around his wraparound porch. The durable steel delivered clean lines, resisted weed creep, and stood up to foot traffic and mowing, drawing compliments from visitors. He recommends planning angles in advance and using an edging tool to locate roots and rocks before hammering pieces in.

Overall, this is a great product. I own a century home on the National Register of Historic Places, so I try to use materials for house projects that look nice and avoid plastic on the exterior to keep the home looking historic. I ordered samples of different edging brands, and this was the most durable and looked great. I recently installed roughly 270’ of edging to have a mulch-bed garden around my house. The edging is very durable, somewhat easy to configure to angles and bends, and looks great. Further, I’ve had minimal weeds and grasses growing into my mulch beds since installing the edging, which has made gardening much more enjoyable. I can step in it without it bending over or hurting my foot, and I can mow/weed-eat around the exterior without the edging being torn up. I’ve had multiple family members/friends comment that they want to install this edging at their own homes/businesses because it looked so nice. The only two aspects I’d let future users know about are 1) The edging is thick, so the ends can be tough to bend. Fortunately, with a little bit of math and planning ahead, pieces can be laid to avoid having to bend sharp angles at the ends or custom angled pieces or connectors can be ordered. 2) I recommend buying an edging tool (<$50) to edge a line before installing the edging. The tool will help find roots and rocks that need to be removed before hammering the edging into the ground. I’ve just completed five separate sections of a mulch bed. This is a section around my wraparound porch.
