DIY Texas Patio, Tornado-Tested Cor-Ten Edging

June 8, 2025Shared by Elizabeth

Elizabeth transformed a narrow side patio in Texas using Edge Right Hammer-In Cor-Ten steel edging. She installed 8 inch and 14 inch panels with 90 degree corner connectors, then observed drainage through heavy storms and even a tornado before finishing. The result is a crisp gravel walkway with patterned pavers and river rock accents that handles runoff and looks great year-round.

I began this project a year ago, I am 67 and did all the labor by myself. I was concerned about flooding and run off issues, so after I installed the edge right panels, I waited and observed the weather patterns to see how they would hold up. Installing the panels was not too difficult and I ended up putting them in, after a hard rainstorm. We have hard clay in this area (Texas), so it was easier to install when the ground was softer. And of course there is my age factor! After installing the panels, I built up the area with dirt, and waited for the weather effects before proceeding to the next phase. Much to my surprise, the panels held up – during a tornado! So, I proceeded to complete the final phase of the patio, see pictures.
